HORTONVILLE – Black ashes coat the front lawn of a King Street property, and the charred shell of a collapsed house leaves little to the imagination.

Firefighters were called to a working structure fire on King Street in Hortonville at 11:04 a.m. March 6.

Plumes of thick smoke carried by steady gusts of wind could be seen rolling out of the wooden house overlooking the Minas Basin as firefighters battled the blaze.

Wolfville Fire Department Chief Todd Crowell said the occupants were not home during the fire, and there were no injuries. Flames had spread throughout the storey-and-a-half home before firefighters were called to the scene.

“It was fully engulfed when I got there,” said Crowell.

The house is considered a complete loss, the fire chief added.

Departments from Hantsport, Greenwich, New Minas, Kentville, Port Williams and Windsor provided mutual aid.

The cause remains under investigation.
