This is the latest court report for Kings and West Hants counties.

Assaulted police officer, uttered threat

Randall Henry Prime, 48, of Greenwich, has been handed a conditional sentence order and has been sentenced to probation for assaulting a member of the Kentville Police Service engaged in the execution of his duty and uttering a threat to cause bodily harm or death to two members of the Kentville Police Service.

Prime changed his pleas to guilty to the two charges on June 25. Judge Alan Tufts handed Prime a 60-day conditional sentence order with daily curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the entire time, to be followed by 12 months of probation.

Prime committed the offences in Kentville on April 28, 2017. A charge of carrying a concealed weapon was dismissed on June 25. A charge of unlawfully possessing hydromorphone was adjourned to July 30 for disposition.

Uttered threat, undertaking offences

Paul Joseph Gorai, 51, of Vaughan, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for uttering a death threat to an individual and two counts of failing to comply with his undertaking.

Gorai was present in provincial court in custody on June 19, when he pleaded guilty to the three charges. He consented to being remanded in custody until June 25 for sentencing. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Gorai a suspended sentence with one year of probation on the three charges and fined Gorai a total of $300 in victim surcharges.

Gorai committed the offences in Vaughan on May 25 and June 6 and in Windsor on June 9. A charge of intending to provoke a state of fear in a justice system participant in order to impede her in the performance of her duties by repeatedly communicating with her directly or indirectly was withdrawn on June 25.

Committed assault, failed to attend court

Scott Andrew Schofield, 38, of Gaspereau, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault and failing to attend court as directed by a judge.

Schofield pleaded guilty to the charges on April 24 and the matters were adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

On June 27, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Schofield a conditional discharge with 15 months of probation on each count, to be served concurrently. Schofield was also ordered to complete 10 hours of community service work in relation to the assault charge.

Schofield committed the offences in Gaspereau on May 22, 2017, and in Kentville on Nov. 7, 2017.

Refused to provide blood samples

Stephen Alan Dorey, a.k.a. Stephen Alan Smith, 34, of Meadowvale, has been fined for refusing to comply with a demand made to him by a police constable - an evaluation officer - to provide samples of his blood for analysis to determine whether he had a drug in his body.

Dorey pleaded guilty to the charge on June 25. Judge Alan Tufts fined Dorey a total of $1,300 and imposed a one-year driving prohibition against him. Dorey will be eligible for the ignition interlock device program after three months.

Dorey committed the offence in Kingston on Aug. 22, 2017.

Assault, undertaking offence

Kevin Donald Tanner, 34, of Newcombville, has been sentenced to probation and fined for committing an assault and failing to comply with his undertaking by failing to abstain from having any direct or indirect communication with an individual or failing to abstain from going to a specific address.

Tanner changed his pleas to guilty to the two charges on May 15 and the matters were adjourned for sentencing. On June 26, Judge Alan Tufts sentenced Tanner to 12 months of reporting probation on the assault charge and fined him a total of $195 for failing to comply with his undertaking.

Tanner committed the offences in Canning on July 1 and 2, 2017. A charge of unlawful confinement was dismissed on June 26.

Suspended sentence for assault

Gregory Robert Ricketts, 22, of Wilmot, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for committing an assault.

Ricketts changed his plea to guilty on May 15 and the matter was adjourned to June 25 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

Judge Alan Tufts handed Ricketts a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation and fined him $100 in victim surcharges. The court granted a secondary DNA order.

Ricketts committed the offence in Greenwood on Sept. 9, 2017.

Conditional discharge for assault

Quentin Mathias Long-Sorochan, 25, of North Kentville, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault.

Long-Sorochan changed his plea to guilty on June 26. Judge Alan Tufts handed him a conditional discharge with nine months of reporting probation and fined him $100 in victim surcharges.

Long-Sorochan committed the offence in North Kentville on June 3, 2017. A charge of unlawful confinement was dismissed on June 26 with the Crown offering no evidence.

Undertaking offences

Robert Patrick Riley, 28, of Auburn, has been fined and handed a suspended sentence with probation for five counts of failing to comply with his undertaking.

Riley pleaded guilty to three counts on May 22. The matters were adjourned for sentencing. Riley pleaded guilty to the other two counts on June 25. Judge Alan Tufts fined Riley $104 on each of the first three counts, for a total of $312 in fines, and handed him a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation on the other two counts.

Riley committed the offences in Auburn between April 14 and 16 and on May 4 and 5, 2017; and in Halifax on Dec. 10 and 14, 2017. Another count of failing to comply with his undertaking was withdrawn on June 25.

Probation for uttering threat

Shane Anthony Davidson, 46, of Mount Denson, has been sentenced to probation for uttering a death threat.

Davidson pleaded guilty to the charge on May 1 and the matter was adjourned to June 25 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Davidson to one year of probation.

Davidson committed the offence in Windsor on March 10. Two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm to an individual were withdrawn on June 25.
