Fine, probation for pointing firearm
Paul Harper, 47, of North Kentville, has been fined and sentenced to probation for pointing a firearm without lawful excuse.
Harper changed his plea to guilty on March 22. Judge Claudine MacDonald fined Harper a total of $650 and sentenced him to six months of reporting probation. The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition against Harper. He’s been given 30 days to lawfully dispose of any firearms in his possession.
Harper committed the offence in North Kentville on July 23, 2017. A charge of handling a firearm in a careless manner by pointing a loaded firearm was dismissed with the Crown offering no evidence.
Suspended sentence for producing marijuana
Robert Brian Fisher, 47, of Canaan, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for unlawfully producing cannabis marijuana.
Fisher changed his plea to guilty on March 22. Judge Claudine MacDonald handed Fisher a suspended sentence with 12 months of reporting probation. The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition against Fisher and granted a forfeiture order for property seized in relation to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charge with consent. Fisher was also fined $200 in victim surcharges.
Fisher committed the offence in Canaan on Aug. 31, 2017. A charge of resisting a police officer engaged in the execution of his duty was dismissed on March 22 with the Crown offering no evidence.
Conditional sentence order
A Three Mile Plains man has been sentenced for counts of assault, mischief under $5,000 and trespassing at night.
Christopher Cody Corbett, 32, appeared in Windsor provincial court March 16 for a sentencing hearing.
The judge imposed a three-month conditional sentence order that will be followed by nine months of probation for each charge. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Corbett was charged in relation to incidents that occurred in Newport Station, starting with the assault on June 15, 2017.
According to court files, the mischief and trespassing charges were the result of an investigation into reports that three car tires were damaged with a sharp object on Sept. 10, 2017.
Curative treatment discharge
Daniel Jonathan Keizer, 23, of Berwick, has been handed a curative treatment conditional discharge for operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Keizer pleaded guilty to the charge in November and the court imposed a two-year driving prohibition against him. Keizer will be eligible for the ignition interlock program after six months. The matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
On March 21, Judge Alan Tufts handed Keizer a curative treatment conditional discharge with 18 months of probation. Keizer was fined $100 in victim surcharges.
Keizer committed the offence in Waterville on April 19, 2017. The legal blood alcohol level is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Keizer’s blood alcohol reading was 190.
Breathalyser offence
Thomas Singleton, 54, of Windsor, has pleaded guilty to one of two charges he was facing for driving while under the influence.
McCarthy appeared in Kentville court March 20, pleading guilty to driving with a blood alcohol level over 0.8 grams.
His sentence includes over $1,600 in fines, a one-year driving prohibition and one year of probation terms.
