CANNING - One man is recovering from injuries after an evening house fire on Bains Road.

A press release issued by the Canadian Red Cross says two adult brothers were temporarily displaced as a result of the blaze, which broke out shortly after 9:30 p.m. Feb. 10.

“One of the men required treatment at hospital for burns to his head and hands. Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have arranged emergency lodging and food for both,” the Feb. 11 press release reads.

Jeff Skaling, a spokesperson with the Canning Volunteer Fire Department, says the fire was minimal when the first officer arrived on scene.

“It was contained quickly.”

The damage done to the single-level home is repairable, Skaling said. The residents did not have insurance.

The property was surrounded in caution tape as the investigation into the cause continued Feb. 11.
