It was one of dozens of calls they dealt with from May 22 to May 29.

They also got a call about a stranger in the house, a vehicle rollover, at least three assaults, and some break-an-enters. And it was a bad week for deer. One driver hit two at the same time.

RCMP responded to 146 calls for service during the week. Eighteen of those calls were 911-related, five were assaults, one was an assault with a weapon, plus a break-and-enter into a residence, a break-and-enter into a business, 24 checkstops, and one about driving while disqualified.

There was fraud, harassing communications, impaired driving, seven Mental Health Act calls, nine mischief calls, one motor vehicle  insurance violation, and 24 speeding violations. One person was reported missing, one was charged with possession of cannabis, there were two suspicious person, two suspicious vehicle, one shoplifting, 10 traffic collisions, three Trespass Act complaints, and one of uttering threats.  

Following are a few of the calls for service:

-- May 22 at 1:08 p.m. at Bridgetown. Police were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 1 and Exit 20. A woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries. One of the parties received a ticket for failing to yield a right-of-way to oncoming traffic.

-- May 23 at 11:46 a.m. at Granville Centre. Police were called to a complaint of a suspicious person. The caller reported that an unknown male walked into her home. The intruder was confronted by a family member and quickly left the house. Police went to the scene but there was no sign of the man. It is not known if this was an attempted break-in. The file is still under investigation.

-- May 23 at 10:03 p.m. at Spa Springs. Police were called to a traffic collision on Highway 101. The driver reported hitting two deer. The vehicle was not drivable having sustained considerable damage. There were no people injured. It is not known if the deer survived. The vehicle was towed.

-- May 23 at 10:14 p.m. at Middleton. Police were called to a domestic incident in Middleton and arrested a 30-year-old man. He will appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of assault.

-- May 24 at 4:48 a.m. at Middleton. Police were called to a report of a suspicious person. The caller reported observing a female snooping around his vehicle and other vehicles around a local business. The caller provided a good description of the woman and a description of the vehicle and license plate number of the vehicle. Police were able to track down the suspect. She was given a warning. No crime took place,

-- May 24 at 4:55 a.m. at Prince Dale. Police received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. The complainant had come across a burgundy mini-van with two females inside. When approached the female driver said they were broken down. The complainant thought this was suspicious and reported it to police as there had been break-ins in the area. A patrol was made and the occupants of the vehicle were identified by police and it was determined that the vehicle was out of gas.

-- May 24 at 4:45 p.m. at Wilmot. Police were called to a complaint of a theft of a golf cart stolen from a business. The vehicle is a 2010 Yamaha golf cart. Police attended and opened an investigation. The following day the golf cart was located in a cemetery some distance from Wilmot. The golf cart has been returned to the business undamaged.

-- May 25 at 12:06 a.m. at Wilmot. Police received a traffic complaint about a suspected impaired driver. The caller reported that the suspect vehicle was swerving all over the road. Police patrolled the area but were not able to find the suspect vehicle.

-- May 25 at 10:27 a.m. at Lequille. Police received a complaint of a traffic collision from OnStar. OnStar reported that the driver hit a deer. There were no people injured. The vehicle was drivable and the driver had continued on to his work place and had advised police he would report to the detachment with details and vehicle information.

-- May 25 at 4:35 p.m. at Paradise. Police received a complaint of theft of a utility trailer. The caller advised police that they had parked a 16-foot homemade steel trailer at a residence in Paradise for the winter. They learned that day that the trailer had been stolen. It’s unknown when the trailer was taken. Police obtained descriptors and plate information and have added it to CPIC as stolen.

-- May 25 at 8:43 p.m. at Granville Ferry. Police charged a female driver with speeding on Highway 1 at Granville Ferry. If found guilty she will pay a fine of $237.50. Police charged 25 people for speeding violations during the week in Annapolis County.

-- May 25 at 10:35 p.m. at Middleton. Police received a complaint of theft. The complainant reported seeing a man in his early 20s stealing something from a business in Middleton. A description of the man and his clothing was provided to police. Police searched the are but the suspect was not located.

-- May 26 at 10:35 a.m. at Paradise. Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 101. Police went to the scene. The driver reported hydroplaning and losing control of the vehicle which went off the road and rolled multiple times. EHS took both occupants to the hospital as a precaution and the vehicle was towed.

-- May 26 at 7:28 p.m. at Nictaux. Police conducted a checkstop on Highway 10 in Nictaux. About 30 vehicles were checked. Two summary offence tickets were issued and one vehicle was towed. Police conducted 23 other checkstops in the county during the week.

-- May 27 at 11:56 a.m. at Nictaux. Police were called to a complaint of assault. The incident is still under investigation.

-- May 27 at 2:08 p.m. at Wilmot. Police received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on Arthur Lane. The caller reported a silver Toyota with four young occupants parked close to her home for more than 30 minutes. The caller confronted the youth and was told they were waiting for someone. The vehicle pulled away and as the complainant attempted to get a photo, the vehicle sped off. Police went to the home and searched for the vehicle but were unable to locate it.

-- May 27 at 8:30 p.m. at Granville Ferry. During a routine checkstop police arrested a 25-year-old man for impaired driving. The man was uncooperative and was lodged in cells following his breath test. He will appear in court at a later date.

-- May 27 at 10:09 p.m. at Delaps Cove. Police were called to a complaint of a break-and-enter into a residence. Entry was gained and two cameras were taken. The incident is under investigation.

-- May 28 at 9:53 a.m. at Wilmot. Police went to the scene of a crash on Highway 101. The vehicle struck a deer. There were no people injured. The deer was dead in the ditch. The vehicle was towed and the department of Natural Resources was contacted to remove the deer.

-- May 28 at 3:10 p.m. at Cornwallis. Police were called to a break-and-enter at a business in Cornwallis. Police patrolled and determined that the break-in happened overnight. A window was prised open. It doesn’t appear that anything was taken. There are no suspects or witnesses.

-- May 28 at 4:13 p.m. at Wilmot. Police were called to a complaint of assault. Police made a patrol to the residence and arrested a 51-year-old male. He was intoxicated at the time and charges are pending.

-- May 29 at 10 p.m. at Carlton Corner. Police were called to motor vehicle crash. The complainant reported a vehicle had come onto her property and hit a power pole. The pole was leaning on the car. Police went to the scene, as did EHS, Nova Scotia Power, and Bridgetown Fire. There were no injuries.
