KENTVILLE, NS - There is no further update on the condition of a woman who was transported to hospital following a collision between a tractor trailer and car in Kentville.

The collision occurred at the 400 block of Park Street around 9:18 a.m. on July 30. The driver of the car, an elderly lady, was transported to Valley Regional Hospital with what were considered serious but undetermined injuries.

Inspector Darryl Brown of the Kentville Police Service said police had received no further update on her condition as of the afternoon of July 31. The woman was the sole occupant of the car.

Brown said the driver of the tractor trailer and a young passenger were unscathed. The tractor trailer incurred minor damages from the collision while the car, a Hyundai, incurred moderate damages.

“It appears both vehicles were headed in an easterly direction,” Brown said. “The initial investigation indicates that the tractor trailer driver was in the process of backing into Kentville Mazda for a delivery.”

Traffic was detoured through the Kentville industrial park between Roscoe Drive and Harrington Road while police investigated. Collision analysists with the RCMP’s Annapolis Valley Traffic Services assisted the Kentville Police. The detour remained in place until approximately 3 p.m.

Brown said there wouldn’t be any further details on the collision available until the investigation is completed.

He said collisions within town limits are quite common, especially minor fender benders in the downtown. However, it’s quite rare to see a collision of this magnitude, particularly between a tractor trailer and a car, considering the lower speed limits.
