Accused of phoning in bomb threat

A Windsor woman accused of making a bomb threat remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Michelle Mary Bonvie, 26, was present in Windsor provincial court in custody on Aug. 22. The Crown was opposed to her release. Bonvie consented to being remanded in custody until Aug. 25 for a bail hearing and plea.

Bonvie is charged with committing mischief by calling in a bomb threat to Donnie’s Taxi in Windsor on Aug. 21. She’s also charged with failing to comply with probation and failing to comply with her undertaking. The charges have not been proven in court.

Cole Harbour man facing sex charges

Edward Leander Bruce, 57, of Cole Harbour, will be back in Windsor provincial court in September for election and plea on three sex-related charges.

Bruce is charged with sexual touching involving a person under the age of 16, sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching involving a person under age 16. He was present in Windsor provincial court on Aug. 22. The defence requested an adjournment to Sept. 22 for election and plea.

It’s alleged that Bruce committed the offences in Falmouth between Jan. 1, 2008, and Dec. 12, 2012. The charges have not been proven in court. The identity of the complainant is protected by a publication ban.

Conditional discharge for threat, assault

Logan Maxwell Freeman, 20, of Kingston, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for assault and uttering a threat by telephone to cause bodily harm to an individual.

Freeman changed his plea to guilty on the charge of uttering a threat in May and changed his plea to guilty to the assault charge in June. The matters were adjourned for sentencing.

On Aug. 23, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Freeman a conditional discharge with 12 months of probation on the two charges. Freeman was fined a total of $200 in victim surcharges.

Freeman committed the offences in Kingston between Aug. 21 and 26, 2016 and in Middleton between Aug. 28 and Sept. 27, 2016.

Fined for drug possession

Rodney Dewayne Upshaw, 46, of Windsor, has been fined after pleading guilty to the included offence of unlawfully possessing cannabis oil.

Upshaw pleaded not guilty to the original charge of unlawfully producing cannabis oil in May and the matter was adjourned for trial. Upshaw pleaded guilty to the lesser, included offence of possession on Aug. 18. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Upshaw a total of $260.

Upshaw committed the offence in Windsor on Feb. 27.
