Obstructed police, probation offence
Frederick William MacDonald, 42, of Three Mile Plains, has been sentenced to jail time for willfully obstructing a member of the Kentville Police Service engaged in the execution of his duty and for failing to comply with probation.
MacDonald pleaded guilty to the two charges on Aug. 2. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced him to 45 days in custody on each charge, to be served concurrently.
MacDonald committed the offences in Kentville on Aug. 1. Another count of failing to comply with probation was withdrawn on Aug. 2.
Fined for attempted fraud
William James Lewis, 52, of Brooklyn, has been fined for attempting to defraud Brooklyn Home Hardware of a microwave.
Lewis pleaded guilty to the charge on Aug. 3. Judge Christopher Manning fined Lewis a total of $195.
Lewis committed the offence in Brooklyn on Feb. 26, 2016. A charge of failing to comply with probation was withdrawn on Aug. 3.
Conditional discharge for assault
Ashley Dorynek, 29, of Wolfville Ridge, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault.
Dorynek pleaded guilty to the charge on Feb. 13 and the matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. On Aug. 7, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek accepted a joint sentencing recommendation from the Crown and defence and handed Dorynek a conditional discharge with six months of reporting probation.
Dorynek committed the offence in New Minas on Oct. 29, 2017.
Curative discharge
Liam Allister Johnston, 22, of Wolfville, has been handed a curative treatment conditional discharge for operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Johnson pleaded guilty to the charge on May 8. The court imposed a one-year driving prohibition against Johnston and the matter was adjourned to Aug. 8 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek accepted a joint sentencing recommendation from the Crown and defence and handed Johnston a curative treatment conditional discharge with 18 months of probation.
Johnston committed the offence in Wolfville on Feb. 16. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Johnston gave breathalyser readings of 200 and 210.
