Lequille man to serve house arrest for assault

Robert John Cromwell, 53, of Lequille, Annapolis County, has been handed a conditional sentence with house arrest for committing an assault.

Cromwell was found guilty on Feb. 21 and the matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. On June 7, Judge Jean Whalen handed Cromwell a 90-day conditional sentence order with house arrest for the entire time. Cromwell was also sentenced to one year of probation and was fined $200 in victim surcharges. The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition against Cromwell and granted a DNA order.

Cromwell committed the offence in Canning between Nov. 1 and 30, 2009. Cromwell is also charged with committing a sexual assault in Canning on Oct. 5, 2011 and with two counts of uttering death threats in Canning on Feb. 21, 2016. Cromwell is scheduled to stand trial on the sexual assault charge on July 5 and is scheduled to stand trial on the two counts of uttering threats on Sept. 20. These three charges have not been proven in court.

East Torbrook Road man sentenced for stealing from legion

An East Torbrook Road man has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for stealing property valued at less than $5,000 from the Royal Canadian Legion in Greenwood.

Shawn Connell, 22, pleaded guilty to the charge on June 6. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed him a suspended sentence with 12 months of reporting probation. Connell was also ordered to make a $200 charitable donation to the legion.

Connell committed the offence on Nov. 8, 2016.

Conditional discharge for assault

Michelle Mary Bonvie, 26, of Waterville, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault.

Bonvie pleaded guilty to the charge on June 6. She was handed a conditional discharge with 12 months of probation.

Bonvie committed the offence in Waterville on July 18, 2016.

Stole from NSLC

Travis Tyler Doiron, 29, of no fixed address, has been fined and sentenced to probation for stealing property valued at less than $5,000 from the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation.

Doiron pleaded guilty to the charge on June 6. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Doiron a total of $13 and sentenced him to six months of reporting probation. Doiron has been ordered to pay $60 in restitution to the liquor corporation.

Doiron committed the offence in Halifax on March 28. A charge of possessing stolen property was withdrawn on June 6.

Probation, fines for dangerous driving, probation offences

Mark Cameron Eddy, 38, of New Ross, has been sentenced to probation and fined for three counts of dangerous driving and three counts of failing to comply with probation.

Following a trial, Eddy was found guilty on all six counts in March. The matters were adjourned to June 7 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Judge Jean Whalen sentenced Eddy to one year of probation and fined him $104 on each count, for a total of $624 in fines. A one-year driving prohibition was imposed in relation to the dangerous driving charges.

Eddy committed the offences on Highway 12 in Kings County on May 27, 28 and 29, 2016.

Conditional discharge for assault

Joseph William Gregoire, 58, of Greenwood, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault.

Gregoire pleaded guilty to the charge in March and the matter was adjourned to June 7 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Judge Alan Tufts handed Gregoire a conditional discharge with nine months of probation and fined him $100 in victim surcharges.

Gregoire committed the offence in Greenwood between Jan. 27 and Feb. 5.

Conditional discharge for assaults

Reilly Howard Hill, 18, of Black Rock Road, Kings County, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for two counts of assault.

Hill pleaded guilty to one count of assault in March. The matter was adjourned to June 7 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. He pleaded guilty to the other assault charge in May.

Judge Jean Whalen handed Hill a conditional discharge with nine months of probation on the two charges. He was fined a total of $200 in victim surcharges and was ordered to complete a total of six hours of community service work.

Hill committed the offences in Grafton on Jan. 12 and 29.

Conditional discharge for assault, mischief

Medford Kelvin Lutz, 52, of Nicholsville, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation for committing an assault and committing mischief by wilfully damaging a woman’s motorcycle to a value not exceeding $5,000.

Following a trial, Lutz was found guilty on both charges in April. The matters were adjourned to June 7 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

Judge Jean Whalen handed Lutz a conditional discharge with eight months of probation and fined him $200 in victim surcharges. Lutz was also ordered to pay $1,441.71 in restitution.

Lutz committed the offences in Nicholsville on Aug. 13, 2016.
