LifeFlight was called in as firefighters extricated a male driver from the lone vehicle involved in the collision. Wolfville Fire Chief Todd Crowell said the car had crossed the median and then flipped, landing on its side. The collision occurred just after 3 p.m. on July 17.

The Lifeflight helicopter was on scene shortly after 4 p.m. and took off at 4:23 p.m. The divided highway allowed for vehicles to continue heading west. East-bound traffic was detoured at Exit 10, Grand Pré, to Exit 8A. Traffic was lined up close to a kilometre, both on the highway and on the ramp.

Numerous firefighters, the department of transportation and Kings District RCMP were on the scene. A transportion crew washed down the scene before the highway was re-opened.
