KINGS COUNTY - There will be military exercises throughout Kings County this weekend.
Members of The Halifax Rifles army reserve unit are slated to complete exercises in Gibson Woods, Sheffield Mills and Baxter’s Harbour Oct. 21-22.
“The Halifax Rifles (RCAC) is an armoured reconnaissance unit based in Halifax and Kentville,” a public service announcement reads.
“The soldiers will depart from 5th Canadian Division Support Base Detachment Aldershot and move on various routes toward Baxter’s Harbour. There will be some activity in the Baxter’s Harbour area on and near Paddy Beach Road.”
The goal of the exercise is to prepare the unit for scenarios relating to natural disaster response.
“A group of up to eight Mercedes G-Wagon reconnaissance vehicles with mounted C6 General Purpose Machine Guns will be in the area and will conform to all civilian traffic laws,” the service announcement reads.
“Participants will be carrying personal weapons (rifles and pistols) but no live or blank ammunition will be used.”
