COTTAGE COVE, NS - Two outhouses at the small provincial picnic park at Cottage Cove were just ashes and two concrete foundations Sunday morning, April 15.

Two people said they were there the night before but a third person contacted the media to say the two outhouses burned down early on Saturday morning, not Sunday morning, and she had posted photos on Facebook on Saturday.

A railing and an entrance platform of one of the public washrooms escaped the flames, but that was all.

Yellow caution tape surrounded the scene Sunday afternoon, and several motorists pulled off the road to inspect the spot among the big spruce trees that is a popular summer destination just a few metres from the Bay of Fundy high tide mark west of Port George.

Picnic tables escaped the same fate as the outhouses, but a local resident said one was once placed over a burning fire pit. The two washrooms that burned down had been vandalized in the past.

One woman who lives in the area said she drove by the park at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday and the two little buildings were still there and there were several cars and people in the park. She said that was normal for a Saturday evening at the popular gathering place.

Annapolis District RCMP are investigating.
