Gordon Conrad — Kentville

Gordon Arthur Conrad - 84, of Melanson, Kings County, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, Gordon was the son of the late Frank and Grace (Jodrey) Conrad. He was employed at the Wolfville Bakery, as a mason helper in Halifax, managed Miner Stevens’ farm in Melanson, and was foreman at R. W. DeWolfe’s apple import/export company and farm machinery repair. Following this he was the superintendent of the Department of Highways for Kings South for a number of years and worked at Kenny’s Farm market in Wolfville until 2010. Gordon married Kay (Stevens) in 1957 and lived a long and happy life. They have five children, Scott (Debbie Ewing), Edmonton, AB; Beth (deceased); Trent (Yvette), Bridgewater, NS; Peta (Wendell Wagner), New Germany, NS; and Jill (Mike Tracey), Melanson, NS. He loved following the extracurricular activities of his nine cherished grandchildren, Tessa, Cassandra (Dusten Legaré), Jacob, Charmaine, Kaleigh, Emma-Sue, Christopher, Cameron and Colin. He also has two great grandchildren, Mckenzie and Mikayla. Gordon is also survived by siblings, Donnie (Ruth) Conrad, Gwen (Bill) Sweet, Paul (Carol) Conrad, Linda (Bob) MacDonald and Laurie (Geneva) Conrad. Gordon was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church in Wolfville and faithfully attended the Wallbrook Baptist Church where he was a member of the men’s choir. He was a very active member of the Wolfville Lion’s Club and recently acquired his 1200 visit pin. He was well known for his superior knowledge in the apple industry and always took pride in his beautiful gardens. Gordon loved hockey. He was always interested in following the Acadia Axemen, the QMJHL and minor hockey leagues that his children and grandchildren played in over the years. Gordon was a true community member who always helped others in need, had a big heart and always had a joke to share. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 in the Gaspereau Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Gary Manthorne, followed by a private family burial in the Gaspereau Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Wolfville Lion’s Hall. Memorial donations can be made at the funeral home to the Wallbrook Baptist Church or the Wolfville Lion’s Club.
