Wolfville’s community development committee (CDC) will have a couple of interesting projects to look on its new Wednesday meeting night.

Switching from Thursday on March 27, the committee will have on its agenda the possibility of Acadia University converting their fuel source for the heating plant from No. 6 fuel oil to natural gas.

A move away from the heavy oil used in power plants would require the use of some dykeland property behind the area for the storage of natural gas transport trailers and required mechanical and electrical equipment buildings.

This land is currently zoned agriculture and designated as a dykeland district (DD) in the Municipal Planning Strategy. An MPS amendment would be required to change the designation of the land to institutional.

The proposed site is within the marshlands, but development director Gregg Morrison said the area is exempted from the regulations given its long history of non-agricultural use.

The committee will also take another look at a potential development for 146 Gaspereau Ave. The proposal was sent back to the developer with two concerns last month.

Morrison said plans for a new, 23-unit, three-storey building still pose height concerns and a lack of outdoor planning.

The latest plan involved a proposed structure that was a storey shorter, but a foot taller than the initial development pitched in 2011. The development officer says a truncated roofline could help.

Halifax developer Noel Taiani has decided to divide his property in half. He could build four duplexes on the second portion.
