The Avon View Avalanche Girls Rugby team roared out to a 15-0 lead over the Horton High Griffins May 8 in Windsor, but ended up being downed by the Greenwich team in the end.

The Avalanche controlled the ball for the majority of the game, but it wasn’t enough.

“Our team was deep in the Horton end many times but we were unable to convert points to show for all our hard work,” Avalanche head coach Jim Bryan said. "Horton does have a couple of players who are on Team Canada's shortlist and they made a big difference in the end as their inside centre broke our line three different times for scores."

The telling tale in this game was the ability to be successful on converts and the difference was Horton made two of their converts while Avon View did not make any.

"Luckily, we will have other opportunities and the season is a marathon, not a sprint,” Bryan said.

Horton is in action May 17 at Parkview.

Despite being in the Horton Griffin’s end many times, the Avon View Avalanche were unable to turn that into any points, losing 15-0.
