The Acadia baseball club will be holding events all day leading up to a celebrity dinner, live and silent auction that evening at Kingstec in Kentville in aid of the Acadia Baseball Goodwill Tour to Cuba that will take place early in 2016.

Special guests for the event will be New Brunswick native Matt Stairs, who played for both the Montreal Expos and Toronto Blue Jays during a lengthy major league baseball career.

Joining Stairs will be Jason Dickson, also a New Brunswick native, who pitched for the Los Angeles Angels before his career was derailed by injury.

Stairs is now a broadcaster for the Philadelphia Phillies, with whom he finished his major league career. Dickson is also a veteran of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League’s Chatham Ironmen, and has run for politics in New Brunswick.

In addition to the live and silent auctions, the celebrity dinner will also include a full-course gourmet meal prepared by the Kingstec Culinary Arts students.

Earlier in the day, starting at 10 a.m., Acadia baseball, Stairs and Dickson will be holding a pitching and hitting clinic at the Indoor Soccer Facility in Kentville.

The clinic, aimed at mosquito and peewee-aged players, has a cost of $40. From 12:30 – 2:30 p.m., a similar clinic will be held for bantam and midget-aged players.

Doors open for the dinner at 5 p.m., with supper served at 6. The silent auction will run during supper and until 8:30 p.m., with the live auction beginning at 9.

Speakers for the evening will include Stairs; Dickson; Dennis Woodworth of Bridgewater, organizer of the Canada-Cuba Goodwill Baseball Tours; and Acadia athletic director Kevin Dickie, who will also be making the trip to Cuba.

Tickets are available from coach Mike Reid (902-300-0391) at $50 per person and $450 for a table of 10, from any Acadia player or coach, or through the Acadia Baseball Facebook page at www.facebook.com/acadiaaxemenbaseball.
