The Knights gave themselves a huge lift on Aug. 13 by sweeping the Truro Bearcats in a doubleheader in Windsor, with scores of 4-3 in nine innings and 3-2.
Both games were seesaw battles with excellent play demonstrated by both clubs.
The Knights led the opening game 2-1 until Truro rallied and scored twice in the sixth inning to go up 3-2 forcing the Knights to tie it in the bottom of the seventh and send it to extra innings.
The Knights improved to 13-10 on the season for 49 points and third place, one ahead of the Sherose Island Schooners from Shelburne County with a 3-2 second game win over the Bearcats.
The Knights and Bearcats were tied 2-2 going into the sixth inning when Windsor scored their winning run as Travis Patterson raced home after a hit ball deflected off a Truro infielder’s glove.
Alex Sabean earned the save pitching a scoreless seventh for the Knights. Sabean took over from Joe Beaton who had come on in the second to relieve Austin Sabean.
Knights playing coach Paul Humphreys described Beaton’s performance as “superb” as he allowed only four hits and gave up a single walk.
Weather a factor
The Knights and Sherose Island were rained out Aug. 12 in Windsor and Hantsport’s field was determined to be unplayable while the Schooners, trailing the Knights by a single point for third place, were also rained out on Aug. 13.
The Knights will be playing one make-up game Aug. 16 in Noel Road and are awaiting word from Sherose Island whether they will come to Windsor Aug. 20 for a make-up a doubleheader.
The Noel Road Blue Jays, who are still trying to hold off Hantsport for first place, will play the Pictou County Royals on Aug. 20 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Noel Road.
The Shamrocks are hosting the Royals on Aug. 19 in the afternoon and the Truro Bearcats on Aug. 20.
The Kennetcook Braves, at 4-21, will finish their season Sunday in Pictou against the Albions after losing a pair of games on Aug. 13 against the Royals by scores of 7-2 and 9-1.
