The peewee Bulldogs came up short in their Oct. 4 game against Bedford, losing by a 22-17 score, their third straight defeat after starting the season 2-0.
“They scored early, and we traded blows with them the rest of the game,” peewee head coach Rob Suffron said Oct. 6.
The Bulldogs, coach Suffron said, “fought hard, and were never out of the game. At the end,” he noted, “the clock was against us.” Defensively, the Bulldogs were “energized” by a Ryan Suffron interception deep in their own zone.
Sami Whidden had a touchdown, and Nick Hamilton added his first touchdown of the season. Owen MacRae had one convert and added a 26-yard field goal.
The atom Bulldogs dropped a fairly close 12-0 decision to Bedford, their second straight setback after a 3-0 start to the season.
Riley Lightfoot, Nate Oickle and Tyler Croteau all turned in sold efforts on defence. “Offensively,” said head coach Paul Arsenault, “we can’t seem to get into a curve yet.”
The bantam Bulldogs, meanwhile, were “in tough for a second straight week” against Bedford, head coach Kevin Hayes said Oct. 6. The bantams also dropped to 2-3 with a 26-0 loss to Bedford, their third straight defeat after a 2-0 start.
Defensively, the Bulldogs “had very little answer” to Bedford’s passing game, which helped the Saints to a 20-0 halftime lead. On offence, Valley was slowed by injuries to quarterbacks and receivers, which limited their play selection to rushing plays.
Royce Glomeau ended up the Bulldogs’ leading rusher.
The second half saw an improvement, at least on defence. John Van Luxemborg defended well, knocking down three passes, and Nathan Myles had an interception.
Bedford added one more touchdown in the second half for a final score of 26-0.
All three Bulldogs teams are back in action Oct. 12 against Fall River, with the bantams playing at 11 a.m., the peewees at 1 p.m. and the atoms at 3 p.m. on Kinsmen Field in Canning.
In addition, the mite Bulldogs are hosting a province-wide jamboree beginning at 9 a.m., all part of the annual celebration of Football Day in the Valley.
