Fifth-year linebacker Drew Morris of Ottawa was named the Outstanding Defensive Player for AUS football.
Morris ended the season with 47 solo tackles, tops in the country. He also had 22 assisted tackles, fifth in the conference and his 58 total tackles led the conference and was second in Canada.
His 2015 stats also included 6.5 tackles for losses of 15 yards, including a quarterback sack for five yards, and also had a fumble recovery. Morris now sits third in the AUS football all-time record book with 222 career tackles.
Morris was also named an AUS defensive all-star, his third all-conference selection. He was also a conference all-star in 2012 and 2014 and a second-team all-Canadian in 2014.
Jesse St. James, a six-foot-two, 240-pound defensive lineman from Pincourt, Quebec, is the AUS Football Outstanding Lineman of the Year for the second time in three seasons.
He also captured the award in 2013.
St. James led the country in both quarterback sacks with 11 and sack yards with 57. His 11 sacks tied the all-time AUS record for sacks in a season. His 31.5 career sacks are the second-most in AUS history.
He finished the season with 30.5 tackles – 26 solo and nine assisted. This included 15.5 tackles for losses of 66 yards, three forced fumbles and a pass break-up.
St. James was named to the AUS defensive all-star unit for a third straight year. He was also a CIS first-team all-Canadian in 2013 and 2014.
Defensive back William Wojcik, also of Ottawa, is the latest Acadia student to win an AUS Student-Athlete Community Service Award for his sport.
Wojcik is the second straight Axemen football player to win the award, following in the footsteps of Sean Stoqua last season.
A fourth-year kinesiology student in his fifth year of eligibility, Wojcik maintained a 4.0 GPA last season, and has a 3.8 GPA for his Acadia career.
This past summer, he received the Honours Summer Research Award. He represented Acadia at the 2015 Certified Society of Exercise Physiology conference in Hamilton, Ont. Where he presented his honours project research.
On the field, Wojcik had 24 total tackles - 20 solo and eight assisted- in seven games this season. He had two tackles for losses of 15 yards, and was credited with breaking up two passes.
Wojcik volunteered with the Cardiac Rehab program, the Acadia S.M.I.L.E. program, the Acadia Active Aging program and the Acadia High Performance Centre.
He is vice-president and co-founder of the Exercise is Medicine club at Acadia and a member of the Acadia Players Association. He also volunteered along with his team for Run for the Cure and the Alzheimer donation drive.
Besides Morris and St. James, other football Axemen named conference all-stars included defensive lineman Adam Melanson, North Alton; cornerback Harlan Hastings, Calgary, Alta.; offensive guard Ethan Charters, Oromocto, NB; as well as receivers Brian Jones, Fall River, and Eli Prochnau, Cochrane, Alta.
