Anyone who has any doubts the new division alignment for Nova Scotia high school football is a good thing for Valley schools should have been at Central Kings Sunday afternoon, Sept. 14.

The new division system for the NSSAF football league has four of the five Valley schools (all but Horton) playing at the Division 3 level, and playing each other twice a season, making for some great local rivalries and lots of fan interest.

On Sunday, NKEC visited CK, and while the Gators left the field with a 27-13 win, the Titans were by no means outmatched in a very entertaining game.

"That's what this is all about," Gators' head coach Larry Priestnall said after the game of the new division format - "having fun, and learning more about football all the time."

The Division 3 league, which includes CK, NKEC, West Kings, Avon View and Dr. J.H. Gillis from Antigonish,"looks to be very competitive and very even," which should make for some great match-ups, of which Sunday was a good example.

Of his team, which improved to 2-0 on the season with the victory, Priestnall acknowledged, "there were a few mistakes, but that's all part of the learning."

As for NKEC head coach Reg Ogilvie, he said afterward, "this was a great game, awesome. My guys played very well," despite falling to 1-1 on the season. "I'm proud of them and the job they did."

On the field, Ben Best had a pair of rushing touchdowns for CK, and also ran in a two-point conversion. Quarterback Connor Ross scored on a short run, and also completed a touchdown pass to Peter Mackey.

For NKEC, quarterback Jon Main scored on a one-yard plunge, and also connected on a touchdown pass to Morgan Isnor for the game's final touchdown.

Central Kings led 12-0 at halftime, then won the second half 15-13.
