The wait is over for West Kings football: in week four of their second season, the Wolverines finally scored their first win, a 36-0 victory over Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals Sept. 28 in Auburn.

“It was a well-deserved win,” West Kings head coach Aaron Evans said. “I see more of them in the Wolverines’ future.”

Evans said his team built a 10-0 halftime lead “and kept going from there. Both sides of the ball played great – the best I’ve seen this year.”

Kyle Gordon, Connor Ryan, Josh O’Reilly and Jacob McLean had one touchdown each for West Kings. Punter-placekicker Chris Jamison added three field goals and three converts to round out the scoring.

“Sam Lutz was a standout on defence, and Kelton Harris, Josh O’Reilly and Connor Ryan stood out on offence,” Evans said. “It’s hard to (single players out) because everyone on the team played harder than they had before. I could have named the whole team as our outstanding player.”

Central Kings defeats Avon View

Central Kings, meanwhile, improved to 3-0 with a 39-15 win over Avon View Sept. 27 in Cambridge. Even though the offence scored 29 points, head coach Larry Priestnall said the Gators’ defence was the key to the victory.

Cornerback Trace Jarvis “had a fantastic game, the best game I’ve seen him play,” with several key tackles and one play that “saved a touchdown,” Priestnall said.

Noah Graves, Ben Best and Isaiah Crossland Belle also had solid games on defence, as did Chet Winter, who picked off an interception.

Offensively, Connor Ross “threw for better than 200 yards, and threw some nice passes.”

With Best’s playing time on offence limited due to injury – although he did, Priestnall pointed out, play the entire game on defence – fullback Matt Priestnall stepped up, rushing for more than 200 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

In limited minutes, Best rushed for around 60 yards and one touchdown, and Crossland-Belle also had a touchdown. The Gators, Priestnall said, “are coming along fine, and improving as a team all the time.”

The final Valley team, the NKEC Titans, had a bye this past week.
