Avalanche girls' hockey team keeps winning streak intact

WINDSOR, N.S. - The Avon View Avalanche’s girls’ hockey team continues to play prolific hockey at an unprecedented rate as they won their 13th and 14th consecutive games.

On Feb. 9 in Bridgetown, after falling behind 2-0 to the Hawks after the first period, the Avalanche stormed back and scored nine unanswered goals for a 9-2 win.

The Avalanche scored five times in the second on two goals from Brittany Poole, and singles by Savannah Hartt, Zoey Rafuse and Maddie Singer.

In the third period, the Avalanche added four more as Poole completed her hat-trick, Hartt also scored a pair to give her three goals in the game along with two assists, and Grace Barry adding a single.

Poole also recorded an assist to go along with her three goals while Paige Parker garnered three assists and Amy Lloy had a pair of assists.

On Feb. 12 in Windsor, the Avalanche recorded a 5-2 verdict over Barrington. Hartt scored three times while adding an assist. Macey Johnston and Singer both potted singles.

Poole recorded four assists and Maddie Miller picked up a pair of helpers.

The last home game for the Avalanche was to be played Feb. 19.

Upcoming tournament

The Avalanche will be tested this week as they host an invitational girls’ high school hockey tournament Feb. 22-23. Six teams will be competing.

In the A Division, Avon View will be grouped with Auburn and Sir. John A. MacDonald while West Kings will compete with Lockview and Halifax West in the B Division.

Play kicks off Feb. 22 in Brooklyn at 9 a.m., with Avon View playing their first game at 10:30 a.m. against Auburn. Avon View plays again at 1:30 p.m. versus Sir. John A.

Play continues for the duration of the afternoon with the playoff-round set to begin Feb. 23 with two quarter final games followed by two semi-final games. The championship game is set for 3:30 p.m. All games will be played at the GFL Recreation Centre in Brooklyn.
