Axemen stay alive for game five in AUS hockey semifinal

HALIFAX - In a do-or-die game at the Halifax Forum, Acadia came back to beat the Saint Mary's Huskies Feb. 24, forcing a fifth game in the Atlantic University Sport semifinal series.

The Huskies opened the scoring with 7:55 remaining in the first period on a power play marker from Matt Tipoff, assisted by Steven Shipley and Stephen Johnston.

Acadia's Brett Thompson, the league's regular season scoring leader, evened the tally a little over five minutes into the second frame, assisted by Matthew Pufahl and Remy Giftopoulos.

Giftopoulos scored the winner with nine seconds left in the second, assisted by Travis Gibbons and Geoff Schemitsch.

Brandon Glover turned away 24 shots; Anthony Peters stopped 29.

The series is now tied 2-2 with the deciding game scheduled for Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in Wolfville.
