West Kings opened the scoring moments into the 1 p.m. game at Digby Area Arena, but the Mariners promptly replied, evening the score before the first two minutes were up.
That was all the sparse crowd of Digby supporters had to cheer about for some time, as the Mariners’ inconsistency caught them out and allowed West Kings to build a comfortable lead.
“They give away a period every game,” admitted Mariners coach Kevin Locke. “You just never know which period it will be.”
Despite that, he said the team is working hard in practice and the results should show after Christmas when he expects the team will at least win as many games as they lose.
“They played well at the tournament last week at Bridgewater. They tied Port Hawkesbury and only lost to Barrington by a goal,” he said.
Noah Thomas is playing exceptionally well, and may be leading the league in scoring, and Dawson Acker, who parked himself in the West Kings slot today and dug for pucks, is showing he’s a hockey player, said Locke.
The Mariners are in Berwick this coming weekend for a tournament that sees them play Friday and twice on Saturday. The team is at home again Dec. 13 against Central Kings.
