BRIDGETOWN, NS – Hockey’s not over yet – at least not in Bridgetown.

And it looks like they may be saving the best for last as the second annual Bridgetown Memorial Cup is up for grabs in a three-day tournament March 23, 24, and 25.

As the name implies, the event pays tribute to some of the Bridgetown area’s late, great citizens. This year the names that will be ‘forever remembered’ are Eddie Gillis, Merle Connell, David Shackleton, Kevin Long, and Theresa McNeil.

The schedule has been released with games starting Friday evening and continuing until the championship game at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Eight teams paid the $600 entry fee that guarantees them three games each with all proceeds going towards a memorial bursary.

A highlight of the day on Saturday – not to be missed -- will be the Memorial Ceremony at 2:30 p.m.

The eight teams are playing in two division: Lunn’s Mill Beer Company (Division 1), and LJ Robicheau Fisheries (Division 2).

Teams include Harry’s Tribe, LJ Robicheau, Naughty Pines, Chiefs, Tuppervillans, Outlaws, Townies, and Next Generation.

Steve Clayton has revamped the old Score-o game that puts a plywood board across the net with slots cut out at the bottom to give sharp shooters a chance to win $500 cash from Bruce GM Digby between periods of the championship game on Sunday. The Bridgetown Regional Community School senior girls hockey team will be selling tickets all weekend for $5 each. The first person to shoot and score wins. You can pre-purchase tickets by contacting Jonny Marshall by texting 902-825-9909 or email [email protected] .

In its inaugural year in 2017, the event honoured Sharon Gallant, Graham Graves, Jim Saunders, Don Kaulbach, Colin Chipman, Harry Verran, Terry McNeil, Robie Toole, Bob Todd, and Paul Spicer.

This year’s event is sponsored in part by LJ Robicheau and Son Fisheries Ltd., Spicer Construction, Bridgetown Pharmasave, Lunn’s Mill Beer Company, S.R. Toole Ltd., Rafuse Mechanical Ltd., Shawns’s Sports Excellence, and Graves Freshmart.
