Tom Coolen has climbed from the AUS to the NHL.
The former Acadia Axemen hockey coach was named one of four assistants to Buffalo Sabres' head coach Ted Nolan earlier this week.
Coolen was an assistant to Nolan with the Latvian national team for the past two seasons, including the Olympic Games in Sochi.
The Sabres announced Aug. 4 he would join Nolan's staff in Buffalo, along with Bryan Trottier, Danny Flynn and goaltending coach Arturs Irb.
He coached the Axemen from 1987 to 1995 ans is also former head coach of the University of New Brunswick and the QMJHL's Moncton Wildcats. Coolen's coaching career has taken him overseas to work in Germany, Switzerland and Finland.
