Former Acadia hockey player makes AHL roster

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A former Acadia hockey co-captain will be playing for an American Hockey League team this fall.

Chris Bruton, who scored 74 points with the Axemen between 2008 and 2010, will play for the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, a Detroit Red Wings affiliate.

According to the axemenhockey.com, the 27-year-old forward attended the team’s training camp on a tryout and made the roster. Last season, Bruton played for the  New York Islanders AHL team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The year before, he played for the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL.

Prior to joining the Axemen, the Calgary native, was the captain of the 2008 Memorial Cup winning Spokane Chiefs.
