Hockey Axemen snap losing streak with 4-2 win in Moncton

MONCTON - The Acadia hockey Axemen got back on the winning track in a big way, scoring a 4-2 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleus Nov. 14 in Moncton.

Acadia, which entered the game having lost two straight games, got two goals and one assist from Mike Cazzola, the game's first star, en route to the victory.

Moncton opened the scoring with the only goal of the opening period, an even-strength marker from Thierry Comtois at 3:31.

Cazzola got Acadia on the board with an unassisted even-strength goal at 13:08 of the second, then made it 2-1 just 49 seconds later, at 13:57, assisted by Chris Owens and Liam Heelis. The second period ended with the Axemen up 2-1.

Brett Thompson made it 3-1 for Acadia at 1:57 of the third, assisted by Tyler Ferry. Alex Beaton increased the lead to 4-1 at 2:49 on a set-up from Cazzola and Tyler Makin.

Pierre Durepos, who finished with a goal and an assist for Moncton, scored the game's final goal at 15:30 of the third. Final shots on goal were 31-25 in favour of Acadia, though Moncton had an 11-3 edge in the third period.

Acadia improved to 8-3 on the season with the win, while Moncton, which started the game just one point behind the Axemen for third place, fell to 6-4-1.

Acadia moves on to UNB for a 7 p.m. start Nov. 15.
