The Axemen, who fall to 3-1 on the season, trailed 2-0 after just 1:44 of the first period, 2-1 at the end of the first period, and 4-2 after 40 minutes.

In a game that saw the return of all-Canadian defenceman Chris Owens to the Acadia roster, St. F.X. struck early, with Robert Slaney scoring after just 50 seconds, and Cole Grbavac making it 2-0 at 1:44. Both goals were even-strength.

Dan Poliziani got Acadia on the board with his first goal as an Axemen, a power-play marker at 5:55 of the first, assisted by Sam Fioretti and Travis Gibbons.

In the second period, Owens tied the score at two with a short-handed goal at 5:26. Acadia then ran into some penalty trouble, resulting in a pair of power play goals by the X-men.

Jarrad Struthers made it 3-2 with a power play goal at 6:05, and Grbavac restored the two-goal advantage for the X-men with a power play goal at 8:07.

The Axemen made it 4-3 at 1:47 of the third period, Zach Franko scoring his first of the season on an assist from Boston Leier.

Despite pulling goalie Brandon Glover for an extra attacker in the final minute, Acadia was unable to net the equalizer.

Final shots on goal were 32-24 in favour of St. F.X., which finished with two power play goals to Acadia's one.

The Axemen return home Oct. 24 when they host UNB in a 7 p.m. start at McCain Arena, then remain on home ice Oct. 25 to face the Moncton Aigles Bleus.
