The Acadia hockey Axemen got their 2014-2015 season off to a positive start with a 4-0 shutout of the Dalhousie Tigers Oct. 11 at the Halifax Forum.

Brandon Glover turned aside all 22 shots he faced to earn the shutout, while the Axemen had 53 shots on rookie Dal netminder Corbin Boes.

Brett Thompson opened the scoring for Acadia with his first of two goals on the night, an even-strength goal at 4:47 of the first period. Scott Trask made it 2-0 Axemen with an even-strength marker at 19:30.

In the second period, Thompson netted his second of the game (and second of the year) at 6:36 to make it 3-0.

It remained 3-0 until Mike Cazzola scored on the power play at 17:36 of the third period. Thompson assisted on the goal for a three-point night, while Cazzola had a goal and an assist.

Acadia is next in action Oct. 17 when the Axemen host the UPEI Panthers in their 2014-2015 home opener, a 7 p.m. start at the Andrew H. McCain Arena.

Prior to the game, the Axemen will hoist the 2013-2014 AUS conference championship banner  to the rafters of the arena.

Acadia will then host St, Thomas Tommies Oct. 18, also a 7 p.m. start in Wolfville. Prior to that game, a ceremony will be held honouring former Axemen player and head coach and Acadia athletic director, the late Don Wells.
