Horton, Northeast Kings face off Tuesday in boys' regional high school hockey final

KENTVILLE - The rescheduled Western Region D-2 boys’ hockey final between Horton and NKEC will be played March 22 at 8 p.m. at the Kentville Centennial Arena.

NKEC and Horton will meet in the Western Region D-2 boys' high school hockey final March 22 at 8 p.m. at the Kentville Centennial Arena. With Horton now playing at the D-2 level in boys' hockey, it has made what was already a keen rivalry between the two neighbouring schools that much more intense. The Titans and Griffins have met several times this season, including at the Fred G. Kelly and Art Lightfoot Memorial tournaments, and the season series is pretty much even.

The game was originally scheduled to be played March 7 in Kingston, as part of the D-2  boys' regional champonship tournament, but the championship game had to be postponed due to a medical emergency involving one of the teams.

The game will be played as a charity event, with the gate proceeds split between the two teams. Horton will be supporting the Wolfville & Area Food Bank, while NKEC will be supporting the Open Arms mission.

Both the Griffins and Titans have already qualified for the D-2 boys’ provincials scheduled for the first weekend in April in Amherst.

The result of the March 22 regional final will determine the tournament seedings for the two teams, with the winner of the game receiving a higher seeding.
