“The crowds are unreal. I’ve never played in front of that big of a crowd,” said Parker, who grew up in Newport Corner.
The 17-year-old played his fourth game with the Herd Jan. 4. He scored an affiliate position with the team after participating in the Mooseheads’ training camp in the summer.
“Their fans are sweet; their atmosphere is great,” said Parker.
“It’s intimidating but at the same time it really encourages you to go hard.”
Parker, a playmaker with quick feet, is growing more comfortable sharing the ice with NHL prospects with each passing game.
“It’s such fast hockey you’ve got to get used to it. It’s just really high tempo,” he said.
Still in pursuit of his first Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) goal, the Grade 12 Park View Education Centre student is focusing on improving his shot and building strength during his season with the Maritime Hockey League’s Bridgewater Lumberjacks.
“It’s awesome to go up there and play for the Mooseheads,” he said. “It’s awesome to have that opportunity, to be thought of that highly.”
The Mooseheads took notice of Parker during his major midget career with the Valley Wildcats.
He scored 13 goals and 29 assists to record a total of 42 points in 59 games in his rookie year with the Wildcats. Last season, Parker scored 11 goals and collected 13 assists in 29 games.
Parker hopes to be spending a lot more time with the Mooseheads in 2015.
“They’re a great group of guys,” he said. “The team works well together, it’s just such a pleasure to be up there.”
