Six minutes the key to Acadia hockey win

WOLFVILLE – A flurry of third period scoring secured another win for the Axemen Nov. 27 and top spot in the league going into the Christmas break.

Four goals in the first six minutes of the period earned Acadia a 5-1 win over Dalhousie.

It was the Tigers’ Fabian Walsh who opened the scoring at 14:24 of the first period, assisted by Phil Gadoury and Colton Heffley.

Geoff Schemitsch evened the score just over a minute into the second, from Mike Cazzola and Brett Thompson, and the tally stayed tied until after the second intermission.

Just 14 seconds into the final frame, Brett Thompson knocked the puck past Tigers’ goaltender Corbin Boes. A moment later, Cazzola scored at 1:08 and Remy Giftopoulos made it 4-1 just before the five-minute mark of the third.

Wendell Vye replaced Boes in the Dal net, only to give up a power play goal from Schemitsch at six minutes into the third.
Kyle Farrell had three assists on the third period goals; Cazzola, Thompson, Xachery Franko and Dylan Anderson each had one.

In a game also included a flurry of flying fists - contributing to 41 penalties and 133 penalty minutes.

Brandon Glover faced 23 shots in the Axemen net; Vye and Boes faced a total of 44.
