The hometown Leafs will take the ice Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. for a game against their Highway 101 rival, the Sackville Blazers. Fans are encouraged to come out to the Hants Exhibition Arena and support the team as they begin their quest for the Don Johnson Cup.
As a special treat, the Leafs will hoist the NSJHL division banner they won at the end of the 2014-15 season.
Weekend play
Of the six games played to date, the Leafs have won four, lost one and lost another during the shootout.
Over the past weekend, they recorded a win and the shootout loss.
On Oct. 17, at the Bay Plex Recreation Centre in Cape Breton, the Leafs and the Glace Bay Jr. Miners were tied 4-4 at the end of regulation time. Scoring for the Valley squad were Alexander Shaw, with two goals, and Alex Feltmate and Connor O’Brien with single markers each.
Connor Morrison stopped 33 of 37 shots on goal throughout regulation and overtime.
The game was decided in a shootout, with the winner being Glace Bay.
On Oct. 18, the Leafs downed the Strait Pirates 4-1.
Tristan D’Entremont scored two third period goals to ensure the win. O’Brien and Shaw also added single goals.
Chris Clokie stopped all but one of the 20 shots he faced in nets.
