The Kings County 4X4 Club and the New Minas Volunteer Fire Department had a fine first day for their Thunder in the Valley 4X4 rally.

The 38th annual event attracted the team of Rachel Anderson of Bridgewater and Lacey Stoddard of Barrington.

The two friends weren’t the only female team in the running. Lacey did note that being ignored by many of the male drivers is the only downside of taking part, however, both women have supportive spouses who race as well.

According to Rachel, the rush of adrenalin is one of the attractions to competition. The young mothers did not bring their children to Thunder in the Valley, which they say is one of the larger rallies in the province.

They were in third place after the conclusion of the ‘sportsman class drag’ race. The two women were hoping to reach third place by end of day Saturday.

The Kings County 4X4 Club organized the races. Proceeds went to support the New Minas Fire Department. The event raises approximately $10,000 for the department each year.

On Oct. 9 events will include the hill climb. Among the classes are four, six and eight cylinder stock, prolite, super stock, prostock, modified and fastest time.
