Kings County athletes compete in squash, curling, hockey at Canada Games Feb. 26

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Greenwood figure skater Alex Robert wrapped up competition in the singles-pre novice male category Feb. 25.

He earned 35.05 points in his free skate, which, when added to the results of his short program from Feb. 23, was good for 11th place.

Nova Scotia’s female squash team defeated the Yukon 4-0 for its first win at the Canada Games on Feb. 25. Canaan’s Taylor Kosxiukiewicz won her match 3-0. The team will go on to compete twice Feb. 26, with a game against the Northwest Territories at 1 p.m. Atlantic time and a game against PEI at 9:30 p.m. AST. Currently, the female team is in last place with a 1-2 record.

The men’s squash team, featuring Horton students Nick Sangster of Hantsport and Douglas Kosciukiewicz of Canaan, is still seeking its first win at the Canada Games. The team lost both of its matches on Feb. 25 when Quebec defeated Nova Scotia 4-0 and Saskatchewan defeated Nova Scotia 3-1. Sangster won his match in the game against Saskatchewan. The men’s squash team will next see action Feb. 26 at 10:30 p.m. AST against New Brunswick. Currently, Nova Scotia sits in fourth with a 0-3-1 record.

Women’s curling action resumes today when Team Nova Scotia faces off against Newfoundland at 1 p.m. AST. Playing for Nova Scotia is Berwick’s Jennifer Smith. Team Nova Scotia is currently unbeaten, with four games played.

Men’s hockey action also resumes Feb. 26 after a day off. Team Nova Scotia, which includes Kingston’s Cole Rafuse, will play Manitoba in the quarter-finals at 8 p.m. AST.
