On a warm, sunny day - in marked contrast to the showers and drizzle that dominated the Kings-West Hants District meet a week earlier - new records were set in running, jumping and throwing events.

MacKenzie Beattie of Central Kings set a new record of 51.80 seconds in winning the intermediate boys' 400-metres, breaking the record of 53.18 set by James Lucas of Park View in 2013.

Lucas was also in attendance at the meet, running for Park View in the senior division. In the senior boys' 400-metres, Lucas ran the distance in 49.95, breaking his own record of 50.30 set a year ago.

In intermediate girls' triple jump, Rachel Holland of Middleton won the event with a best jump of 10.75, breaking her own record for the event set last year.

In senior boys' long jump, Owen Hebb of Northeast Kings jumped 6.58 metres, breaking the old record of 6.51 which had been held by K. Bezanson of Chester since 1983.

Two new records were set in pole vault. In junior girls', Ashley Rogers of Coldbrook vaulted 2.21 metres, eclipsing the old record of 2.20 held by Kayleigh Wolodka of NKEC since 2005.

In intermediate boys' pole vault, Austin Visser of Central Kings vaulted 3.22 metres, breaking the old record of 3.20 set by Eric Rand of NKEC in  2010.

In addition, Ben Best of Central Kings narrowly missed breaking the senior boys' pole vault record of 3.51 metres held by T. Jones of CK since 1999.

The regional meet continued all day May 30, with the top finishers advancing to the NSSAF provincials June 5-6, also at Acadia.
