SYDNEY, N.S. – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will be represented at this year’s IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo, N.Y.
Forward Drake Batherson was named Team Canada on Friday for the upcoming tournament, which takes place Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
The New Minas, N.S., native and Ottawa Senators fourth round draft pick has appeared in 24 games for the Screaming Eagles this season, recording 17 goals and 39 points.
The 19-year-old, who also played for Team QMJHL at this year’s Canada Russia Series, recently return to action after missing time with a fracture in his hand.
Batherson becomes the fifth Screaming Eagle in franchise history to represent the club at the world junior tournament, and the second player in as many years to play for Canada, this after Pierre-Luc Dubois played in the 2017 tournament.
Team Canada opens the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship on Dec. 26 against Team Finland.
