GREENWICH, NS - Horton Girls’ Basketball will begin their 2017-2018 season this weekend, hosting a tip off weekend of exhibition games held at Acadia and Horton Nov. 11 and 12.
The team is eager to wear Horton uniforms again, said coach Dwayne MacLeod, after the disrupted season last year due to work to rule.
Horton was the 2015-2016 defending provincial champion and the team was 11-0 before work to rule ended their season.
“This year features a young roster entering a very aggressive tournament schedule with the goal of winning their way to the provincials, held at North Nova Education Center in New Glasgow in early March 2018,” MacLeod said.
The team consists of five Grade 9, two Grade 10, four Grade 11 and two Grade 12 players.
“The team will compensate for youth and size by playing an exciting uptempo style of offense and pressure defence,” he added.
This weekend's tip off games will be the team's first official competition of the season, but the team did play three scrimmages last weekend at Dalhousie.
“Horton aims to once again be one of the top teams in Nova Scotia, building on the strong tradition of girls’ basketball in the Annapolis Valley,” he said.
Games this weekend will be played at Acadia on Nov. 11 and at Horton on Nov. 12.
