Held at the Antigonish Golf and Country Club on Oct. 3, over 20 senior girls competed but only Cumby walked away with the first place medal.
“I was pleased with winning provincials but I didn't feel I played my best that day,” admits Cumby. She says she wasn’t very happy with her putting.
She says she is most proud of her results from earlier in the summer.

She says she is most proud of her results from earlier in the summer.
“I shot my personal best in the Ken Wo Club Championship, and had the opportunity to compete in the 2016 Canadian Junior Girls Championships at the Links at Penn Hills in Shubenacadie,” says Cumby. These, she says, were great experiences for her.
Cumby started playing golf at Ken-Wo when she was eight years old. She says she just loves being at the golf course and being outside.
“I am grateful to have been brought up golfing and enjoy being involved in the sport as I have made great friends,” says Cumby.
Derek MacKinnon, the head professional at the Ken-Wo Golf Club, says Cumby is a great athlete as her swing has always been fluid and she works hard on her game.
“Sara embodies kindness and her easygoing nature enables her to be very humble, even though she's still a fiery competitor,” says MacKinnon.
Cumby plans to continue playing golf through high school and compete throughout the summer and maybe play in university.
MacKinnon says Cumby has tons of potential in golf.
“It's not surprising to see her hit her stride and she'll be at the top of the leaderboards for years to come,” he says.
