BERWICK - Anna Ashford-Morton is ready to work her magic to make the hubbub that often accompanies the holiday season disappear.
She'll deck the halls. She'll trim the tree. She'll brave the shopping mall on Christmas Eve.
“I love the hustle and bustle,” the Berwick resident said.
“I love decorating, baking and my all-time favourite would be shopping.”
Ashford-Morton, who also serves on town council, is in the process of retiring after nearly 30 years with the Department of Justice. She recently launched Making Seasons Light to offer holiday services – wrapping, baking, decorating and shopping – to people of all ages who, for whatever reason, would like some help ensuring all is merry and bright.
Now a mother of two adult children, Ashford-Morton can still remember the days when the holidays came and passed in what seemed like a flash while she balanced a demanding work life with the needs of her busy children.
“I was thinking, if there had of been a me around then, I would have used me,” she said with a laugh.
She hopes the services available through Making Seasons Light can alleviate some stress, and create more opportunities for her clients to focus on what matters most to them at this time of year.
For Ashford-Morton, wrapping gifts calls back several cherished memories. She fondly remembers watching Christmas movies with her family as a child, and admiring the elegant gift boxes. And she laughs when she thinks back to the times her mother stumped them with her unique – and misleading – gift-wrapping techniques.
“I've always loved to wrap gifts. That's been my thing since I was young,” she said.
“My mother hated to wrap gifts, but my mother loved the element of mystery and surprise at Christmas.”
