WEST HANTS, N.S. — When it comes to installing glass, Kevin Durling and Amin Tran aim to provide a service that's a cut above the competition.

The business partners launched The Martock Glass Company almost a year ago with the focus on providing dependable service and quality glass installations from Windsor to Annapolis Royal.

The duo met after Tran moved to Hants County from Alberta. Both knew there was a market for a more intimate service-based glass business.

“Service, service, service,” said Tran, noting that while it seems like a simple concept, it's one that is often overlooked by companies trying to turn a profit.

“We set ourselves apart by making it convenient. The homeowner doesn't have to take time off work; we can show up on Saturday or Friday night. Our hours of operation are very flexible,” said Durling, who is from Bridgetown but calls the Rawdon/Gore area home.

“Everybody's needs are different.”

Martock Glass offers residential, commercial and automotive glass service. They pride themselves in being mobile, noting, “we understand your time is valuable so whether you’re home or away from home, wherever you are, we come to you.”

For cracked or damaged windshields, The Martock Glass Company has a mobile unit that, in short order, can replace it wherever the vehicle may be located.

“We come to you to provide the estimates. We bring our showroom to you. When it comes to vehicles, we bring the service to you, whether it's at home or at work. That's definitely one thing that has set us apart and allowed us to be mobile in the community,” said Tran, who lives in Martock.

Tran says they strive to provide fast, friendly service while supporting the local economy.

“We only use Nova Scotia-based manufacturers for our products,” said Tran.

“It's important to support the local economy here. More and more, we see jobs leave Nova Scotia. We feel where we live is where we want to support. It's where we work; that's the community that we're a part of,” he continued.

Tran said one of the company's main goals is to make sure the customer is satisfied from start to finish.

“You get full transparency. It's the little things that set us apart. It's nothing elaborate or grandiose. It's all the simple, basic things. Meeting our appointments on time, meeting our deadlines on time, giving proper budgets and realistic expectations to our customers and then ensuring that we always deliver on that,” said Tran.

The business specializes in retrofitting older homes located throughout the Valley to make them weather tight.

“With the cost of utilities being really high here — heating and cooling costs — adding windows and doors that are effective for the energy rating will drastically put money back in your pocket,” said Tran.

“In some instances, our calculations have shown savings of up to 35 per cent per year.”

Aside from saving money, Tran said upgrading windows and doors also adds value to the home, and it's something that he says more and more people are capitalizing on.

Martock Glass was formed in June 2017 and will be celebrating one year in operation this coming August.
