“She is a force to be reckoned with, an entertainer through and through,” said Paisley.
Paisley met Thomas, a Vegas-based vocalist, author and inspirational humourist, while working in a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Alberta, and the duo became fast friends.
“We gave each other a great big hug like we had been friends forever,” said Paisley, recalling how kind Thomas was in their first encounter.
Thomas, a breast cancer survivor, regularly tours North America in an effort to raise funds for cancer research and support programs. On Sept. 30, this advocacy work will lead her to the Grand-Pré National Historic Site.
“She goes from big cities to little towns and tries to raise money for the local cancer society,” said Paisley, who organized the upcoming event dubbed Pink Rhayne in the Valley – An Unusual Fundraising Affair.
The event, running from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., has been 18 months in the making. The lineup will include a talk by Thomas as the evening’s host, entertainment from Mike and Maggie of the Boston-based band Chasing Blue, a selection vendors offering food and beverage sampling, and live and silent auctions with more than $5,000 worth of items up for grabs.
The proceeds raised will be split between the Canadian Cancer Society’s Lodge that Gives, and breast cancer research projects in Nova Scotia.
“Cancer touches us all in one way or another and I just feel that it’s needed funds,” said Paisley, explaining the motivation behind her decision to organize this unique fundraiser.
Tickets are selling for $50, and each ticket includes two food vouchers and six beverage chits.
Tickets are limited, with only 200 available, and can be purchased in person at the MacKay Real Estate office located at 382 Main Street in Wolfville, by calling Paisley at 902-790-0070, or online through https://halifax.snapd.com/events/view/1087200.
