West Hants' Emergency Preparedness Day promotes personal safety, disaster planning tips

GARLANDS CROSSING, N.S. —

Despite a cooler than usual spring day, a couple hundred people stopped by the fire substation in Garlands Crossing to check out a special Emergency Preparedness Day event.

Representatives from various organizations were on site to talk safety, show visitors how to create a 72-hour kit, and showcase the tools of the trade.

Paul Maynard, West Hants’ alternate Regional Emergency Management Office co-ordinator, said the May 4 event was well-attended and the organizers were pleased with the feedback.

“We are looking at (holding it annually) because of the overwhelming response,” he said.
