TRURO, N.S. — Matt Moore is looking forward to the knowledge and enthusiasm that will be a part of the Atlantic Vitality Expo (AVX).

The event is being held at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre (RECC) in September and some of the main events will involve health and fitness expert Bob Harper.

“This is a formal call to action to make Atlantic Canadians healthier,” said Moore, who is the general manager of the RECC. “Lifestyle choices we make every day can have a big impact on our health

“We (in Cumberland-Colchester) have the second highest adult obesity rates in Canada.”

He said the event will include a free expo with more than 200 exhibitors, seminars and workshops.

Bob Harper will be the keynote speaker for a dinner during the evening of Sept. 26. Tickets for this start at $59.75 plus taxes and fees. On Sept. 27 Harper will lead a concert-style workout in the arena. The cost is $10; free for RECC members.

“I’m really excited about AVX,” said Raj Makkar, manager of ambulatory care at the Colchester-East Hants Health Centre. “We all have a choice to make and at the hospital we see the results of some of those choices.

“We need to take our health into our own hands. It’s something we can all do.”

Genrus United is a co-presenter of the expo.

Those involved hope AVX will become an annual event.
