Spokesperson David Schaffner was glad to see technician Jeff Coates arrive May 4 with a necessary projector part that originated in California.
Coates, who came from Moncton, installed a new IMB board at the popular drive-in. He is the proprietor of two theatres himself.
“The IMB board controls everything,” Schaffner said. It was damaged by moisture over the past winter.
“We’re doing a test run tonight,” he said.
On the slate for May 5 is a double bill Fast and Furious 8 and Get out. Schaffner reminds patrons that the drive-in holds 400 vehicles.
The Coldbrook and District Lions Club operates the drive-in with volunteers. Money raised goes back into the community through projects supported by the club.
Gates generally open at 7 p.m., with the screen lighting up at dusk. The drive-in was first opened in Cambridge in the early 1950s. It was a private business then, and a hotspot for entertainment.
Today, it is the only drive-in theatre that’s still operating in mainland Nova Scotia.
