BRIDGETOWN, N.S. — From June 10 to 17 the Annapolis District RCMP members were busy with numerous calls. Here are the highlights:
June 10, 2019
BROOKLYN – Police received a report of theft of rims and calipers off two brand new vehicles at the Chrysler dealership. Approximate value…over $7,000. Anyone with any information on these thefts, please contact the Annapolis District RCMP.
TUPPERVILLE – Damage to property at a residence was reported. A front door appears to have been hit with a hammer and exterior light fixture was torn off. The investigation remains open.
TORBROOK – A transformer on fire lead to enflamed power lines. RCMP attended with NS Power. NS Power advised the trees had grown up and pushed the wires together causing the fire. The fire was extinguished and NS Power did some tree trimming.
NICTAUX – Boys and their toys! Incidents of burn outs and speeding trucks continue to be reported in Nictaux. Several marks are being left on the road. The RCMP would like to remind stunt drivers they will face a fine of $2,422 for operating a motor vehicle on the highway in a race, a contest, while performing a stunt, or on bet or wager under Sec 163(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act. Expensive way to start your summer boys!
PARADISE – No bull. A caller reported a bull in her yard scratching himself up against her car. RCMP attended and located the owner who came and secured the animal.
June 11, 2019
NICTAUX – A caller reported that while fishing, his car was keyed.
WILMOT – Theft of three saws from a shed was reported. Possible suspects were named and the file remains open.
MIDDLETON – Hit and run: A caller reported his vehicle was parked at the grocery store when another vehicle backed into it. The suspect vehicle departed and not before an alert witness marked down the plate. RCMP were able to track down the owner, discuss consequences of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and obtain insurance info.
MIDDLETON – RCMP pulled a vehicle over after noticing the plates were expired. After a short discussion with the driver, the officer noted the smell of liquor. The driver blew a warning and received a provincial license suspension for a week. He did get two parting gifts: $180 37(1)(a) MVA for Operating Unregistered Vehicle and $151.25 for Sec 71(3) MVA Licensed Driver failing to notify Registrar of change in address.

ROUND HILL – Another phone scam: The caller stated he received a phone call saying he owed $800 on his credit card. He provided the scammer with his credit card number and was advised to purchase $800 in google play cards. After he hung up, he luckily contacted the police who advised him not to buy the cards and contact his bank about his credit card immediately. RCMP are reminding the public to never provide personal information in these situations. Any ‘company’ asking you to purchase Google play or ITunes cards, is, straight-up, fraudulent.

BRIDGETOWN – Police received a 911 call. Officers made a patrol but there was no emergency. The home owner stated she was trying to dial overseas. 011 is so very, very close to 911…
NICTAUX FALLS – RCMP responded to a neighbour dispute. The neighbour told caller to “shut up.” So guess what caller did? Told him to “shut up” back. This is what we deal with sometime. Both were back in their homes by the time RCMP arrived and it appears everyone had indeed, just “shut up”…

KEJIMKUJIK – And it begins again for another season! Hang up 911 calls from the pay phones at the park. RCMP would like to remind the public that although this may appear ‘fun’ to do,’ for each of these calls, park and emergency resources are being pulled away from addressing priorities.
Mountie Memo: As school winds down for the year and weather gets nicer, many little ones are walking to and from school. Please pay attention at stop signs and cross walks.
Senior Safety Memo: The Annapolis RCMP Seniors Safety Program will be hosting a presentation on ‘Elder Abuse Awareness and Prevention - What We All Need to Know’ at the Rosa M. Harvey Library in Middleton on June 25 from 11 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome, no cost or registration required, and refreshments will be served.
