BRIDGETOWN, N.S. - Strong winds, fallen trees and power lines, a cruiser baby, and motor vehicle fender benders kept the members of the Annapolis District RCMP busy the week of Oct. 29 to Nov. 4. Following are highlights of the week:
Oct. 29, 2018
Upper Clements: Annapolis District RCMP responded to a mischief complaint in which the caller reported the front window of his vehicle was smashed. A baseball bat was found at the scene. RCMP are requesting any information be reported to the Annapolis District RCMP.
Middleton: A driver was stopped for ‘Operating Motor Vehicle in Manner that Causes Loud and Unnecessary Noise.’ The driver, showing off in an attempt to get his fellow students’ attention by racing and squealling tires, instead got the full attention of one person…. a police officer in an unmarked car. The driver was issued a $295 fine under the Motor Vehicle Act Section 106(a)(b).
Granville Ferry: RCMP responded to a rear-end fender bender. There was extensive damage to both vehicles. Luckily, no one was hurt.
South Williamston: Police responded to a break-and-enter into a home in which the suspects entered through the storm door in the basement and stole speakers, a sound system and a 30-inch TV. RCMP are asking the public if they have any information on this break-and-enter, to report to the Annapolis District RCMP.
Oct. 30, 2018
Middleton: A family dispute reported in Middleton resulted in an assault on a police officer. While placing the accused in the back of the police car, the accused decided to spit on the officer. Charges are pending and the accused will appear in court in December.
Nov. 1, 2018
Bear River: RCMP and firefighters responded to a vacant home engulfed in flames. The investigation is ongoing.
Spa Springs: A 42-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, both from Spa Springs, have been charged with multiple theft, firearms, and drug-related offences. The investigation initiated as a result of a theft of wheel rims on Highway 201. The suspects fled the scene but due to keen eyewitness assistance, they were arrested shortly thereafter without incident. A search of the suspect vehicle revealed the stolen rims, a quantity of methamphetamine, and a loaded firearm. Other property related to previous thefts was also recovered in the vehicle, including personal identification, laptops, and a computer tablet. Annapolis RCMP followed up with a search warrant at the subjects’ residence in Spa Springs where numerous other stolen items were recovered including firearms, quantities of methamphetamine and hydromorphone, computer equipment, fraudulent identifications.
Daniel Roger Jodoin and Shannon Corrinee Lee Jodoin have been remanded and thus far the following charges have been sworn: one count of theft under $5,000; two counts of possession of stolen property; six counts of unsafe storage of a firearm; 12 counts of failure to comply with an undertaking/recognizance; two counts of break and enter; two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine and hydromorphone) and four counts of possession of a weapon contrary to order.
Lequille: Theft of $140 in gas was reported. The vehicle is described as a maroon Ford crew cab with a black rack on the back. There was no plate on the vehicle. If anyone has seen this vehicle, contact the Annapolis District RCMP.

Wilmot: A single-vehicle motor vehicle accident was reported. A cat, on the side of the road, thought it was the “purrrfect” time to cross. The driver swerved and ended up in the ditch. Lucky cat…still has eight of his nine lives; the car…not so much! The car was written off with over $20,000 damage. The driver was not injured.
Middleton: Another motor-vehicle collision was reported - this time a ‘hit-and-run.’ The passenger side of a parked vehicle on Main Street was hit leaving a two-foot-long dent smeared with red paint. Investigation is ongoing and RCMP is requesting any info be reported to the Annapolis District RCMP.
High winds causing general havoc for folks all across Annapolis had the RCMP responding to numerous calls for felled trees and downed power lines.
Nov. 3, 2018
Bridgetown: While on patrol an RCMP member noted a speeding vehicle. The officer did what he does, pulled the vehicle over and inquired what might be so urgent. The driver had a good one. His wife was in labour! The officer contacted EHS and followed the vehicle to ensure the safety of the dad and expectant mom-to-be. They got as far as the Tim Hortons in Bridgetown where members then assisted with the delivery of a lovely mini Mountie!
Bridgetown: Tim Hortons was the hot spot on this date. RCMP responded to call of trespassing by a group of teens who were looking for a short cut drive – over private property - to Bridgetown Tims. That decision resulted in the vehicle being towed, a ticket for trespassing, and a Protection of Property Act paper issued. These teens now know that you “donut” go on other people’s property!
Meadowvale: RCMP responded to a call of an erratic driver. The vehicle was located on Bridge Street. When the officer approached the vehicle, the vehicle sped away, nearly striking the officer. The vehicle was located shortly thereafter and driver arrested for impaired driving, dangerous driving, and assault with a weapon.
Carleton Corner: A caller reported a large dead animal on Highway 201. The responding members noted from afar that it did indeed appear to be quite large and, by all accounts, immobile. As they cautiously approached, they discovered a very dead… bale of hay.
