BRICKTON, N.S. - A 70-year-old Lawrencetown woman is dead after a crash on Highway in Brickton at about 2:30 p.m. Dec. 4 just west of Middleton.

RCMP said a pickup truck heading west on Highway 1 collided head-on with a small eastbound car that had veered across the centre line of the road.

The driver of the car was seriously injured and was transported via ambulance to hospital, and later transported by LifeFlight to Halifax.

Police said the Lawrencetown woman died in hospital later that evening. She was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The driver of the pickup truck and her two small children sustained minor injuries.

Highway 1 was closed and detours set up. RCMP members on the scene requested a traffic analyst attend to examine the scene for evidence.

Roads were bare and dry at the time. The crash happened just beyond where the highway crosses a bridge at the west TRA entrance. Two ambulances were on the scene as well as RCMP and firefighters.

Highway 1 between Exits 18 and 19 was closed until approximately 10:30 p.m. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

RCMP said their thoughts are with the victim's family at this difficult time.
