COLDBROOK, N.S. — A Cambridge man is facing charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm following a collision in Coldbrook.
On Aug. 15 at 6:45 p.m., the Kings District RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on English Mountain Road. When police arrived on the scene, they located an injured man trapped in a damaged truck. He was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle. A second truck involved in the collision was on fire.
The injured man was transported to Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck that caught on fire, a 28-year-old Cambridge man, was found nearby and was showing signs of impairment. After being assessed by EHS paramedics, the driver failed a roadside screening device test. He was transported to the RCMP detachment in New Minas to provide further breath samples.
The 28-year-old Cambridge man has been charged with impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm and operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in Kentville provincial court on Oct. 8.
An RCMP collision analyst was called to examine the scene and, as a result, English Mountain Road was closed for several hours. It has since been reopened.
